Randy Miller

Randy's musical journey began in childhood with piano and continued when his older brother introduced him to old-time fiddle music in high school. Having moved to Boston in the early 1970s, fresh out of college, Randy heard in that wonderful musically-mixed city Angus Chisholm, Paddy Cronin, Simon St. Pierre, and Jerry Holland, among others. These great fiddlers inspired him to pick up the fiddle and, being self-taught, he could pick and choose his own personal style of bowing and ornamentation. To coin a phrase, combining Irish and Cape Breton styles with sounds from his home state of New Hampshire, Randy plays "New Hamptic." He has been playing fiddle and piano for contra dances and at Irish sessions for more than thirty years. Randy also collects and composes tunes and publishes books, including the "New England Fiddler¹s Repertoire" and "Irish Traditional Fiddle Music." Most recently he published "The Fiddler¹s Throne," a collection of 375 fiddle tunes, and recorded a companion CD released in June, 2005.  

Tom Hodgson

A native New Englander, guitar player Tom Hodgson has 30 years of contra dance playing experience and was a founding member of the band, Fresh Fish. He has performed in Europe and throughout the US, and plays with high energy and compelling rhythm. His choice of open tunings and mastery of chordal improvisation bring a trademark sound and color to contra dance music, and he is a well-known accompanist for performers of traditional Irish music. Tom is the accompanist on Randy's new CD, "The Fiddler's Throne."
